After achieving a 2:1 BA (Honours) in Industrial Design Textiles from The Scottish College Of Textiles, Galashiels, Scotland, at the age of 21, Fiona McCay worked for a short spell in New York in a design studio, and from here worked as an art Consultant in London for 2 and a half years. On returning to Edinburgh she always maintained her freelance art commissions.
However things were to change. Paper Blossom was a harmonious result after her own wedding to the lovely Simon. Making the invitations accessories was just a natural thing for her to do, but on realising the warm response to her creations a good friend prompted her to look at this as a full time business and not a one-off project, and to leave the unpredictable life of freelancing. On researching the market for hand-made wedding stationery McCay felt it definitely was an area that she could project her energy, enthusiasm and creativity towards. This in turn led to full backing and support from Edinburgh Enterprise. Paper Blossom was firmly established in spring 2002 and the rest of course is history.
Paper Blossom was set up by Fiona McCay, a qualified textile designer, in 2002. Operating initially from a base in Edinburgh, Fiona moved to Lanark in 2003, and converted a victorian laundry room into a design studio. The studio is within easy reach of Glasgow and Edinburgh, based in central scotland, UK.
